The Hindenburg catastrophe occurred on 6 May, 1937. The cause of the fire remains unknown, though there are multiple theories. Surprisingly, only 36 people perished in the disaster, one of them a ground crewman. The loss of the Hindenburg caused a decline in public interest in airship travel. What would have happened if the Hindenburg had not been lost? Maybe zeppelins would have remained popular. Also the band Led Zeppelin would have had to come up with a different photo for their debut album's cover. Personally, I'd like to fly on an airship some day. But I'm eccentric like that.

Bibliophiliac Thoughts from the White Board - March 23

The Bibliophiliac part is because A.) I read a lot of books, as anyone who peruses this blog on a regular basis can see, and B.) I had a weird craving on this breezy March afternoon to go to the local public library.  Not for anything in particular, mind you.  Just to walk the stacks and browse.  For fun.  I like the smell of books.  Have since I was a kid.  Dragged through too many libraries as a child, I guess.  And back then, I didn't read the books I leafed through unless there was a cool picture on the cover.  That and I only read the end, so I'd see how the book turned out.  A good ending has always been somewhat significant to me, even if I had almost no clue as to who these people were or why they did what they did.

Anyway...  Wow, where has the month of March gone?  Seems like only yesterday I was enjoying birthday celebrations and proudly wearing my new shirt.

Yup, I finally got it.  Thanks to my hunie for that. / Source: eBay
Or my other new T-shirt.

Yeah, I saw Sheldon wear one on an episode of The Big Bang Theory and decided it was cool.  Thanks to my mom for this birthday gift. / Source: eBay

And now here it is, the slippery slope leading to April already.  And Easter is in March this month (tomorrow, I think), which is weird.  I like holidays that fall on a particular day, personally.  This whole "maybe it's in April, maybe it's in March"-thing isn't cool to me.  But I don't make the rules.  And it is an important holiday, after all.

Honestly, I only realized it was so late in the month because I noticed that regular TV programs (i.e.: Thursday night's Big Bang Theory... OK, I'm a regular view, so sue me) were being interrupted by March Madness.  I am not a big college basketball guy, so I've never cared much about it, but this NCAA basketball contest does always signify that Spring is fully in bloom here where I live.

To be honest, I've never understood such devotion to NCAA 'ball.  But then I've always been a bit odd. / Source: TomMcmahon.net

Or should be, that is.  It's cold today.  Has been snowing a bit, off and on.  I notice because whenever I crawl out of my cave after endless hours doing college algebra, I see the skies are overcast and notice traces of white stuff falling from the air.  It doesn't stick though.  Ground is too warm by now.  But still not the welcoming embrace of a late spring/early summer day.

To be honest, spring is not my favorite season.  Where I live, it is always so unsettled.  You get a day of rain and then a day of unseasonably warm weather and then a day of snow flurries and then a day of rain and then a day of clouds and then a day of unseasonably warm weather.  Like that.  My clearest memories of spring are of getting sick from all the whiplash weather effects.  And hoping settled temperatures will arrive sooner or later.  And looking forward to school being out for the summer (back when I was in elementary/Junior High/High School, that is).

Well, I don't have much else of value to say.  No political diatribes like that last post.  Just some Thoughts geared toward hanging in there.  I can't seem to get ahead in my math studies, but I keep trying.  Soon it will be over, and I hope when it is, I am satisfied.  Gotta get done with this and get my degree.  And then go see what the world will do with me, I guess.

For college seniors there should be a week of being allowed to cry. Just break down and cry because you are scared and don't know what's next. - Bill Cosby

Brilliant!  I gotta get me a mega-size can of Tuna from the local Super-Ultra-Fantastic Warehouse store and carry it around the house with me.  I'd never have to do another chore.  Ever!

  1. Too many germs in a library for my liking but I sure do love books too...that's why I love my Kindle so much....and disinfectant spray.

It takes more than a large can of tuna to get out of doing chores. ;)
